In my whole life, I have never drawn a My Little Pony. Suddenly, I just had this overwhelming urge to draw one. But not as a typical pony, oh no, as a Hippogriff. Hippogriffs turn up in a lot of different mythologies including Scythian (an ancient Eurasion culture that dominated the steppes and plains of the Ukraine and elsewhere). So, I found a vaguely Scythian symbol and reproduced it on her rump and have called her Scythia. If I decide to colour her, I promise, she'll be gold. The Scythians were famous for three things: their gold, their horsemanship, and their brutality.
I used Copic drawing pens and Prismacolour greyscale markers.
The lines are so smooth. Nice design as well. The marking on its' upper thigh kind of looks off a little bit, but I think maybe it should be like that, because maybe it is sitting off kilter. ^-^
She is pretty. What initially attracted me to her was, the depth and detail of the lines. I was unaware of the knowledge about hippogriffs and scythians. I am part ukraine descent and now curious to the symbol you mentioned and drew. It is very pretty. I like your drawing; she is drawn together very nicely. The shading and grey tonal scales have smooth transitions and I think one of my favourite parts of her is her left front leg/arm - the talons.
Beautiful job. How long did it take you to complete her?

I'm not sure what you mean by the marking being off, unless you mean that it's only kinda roughed in. I should have made it larger, but it's just an ancient pattern and so it's missing the typical My Little Pony cuteness. Anyway, thanks very much, Cass.
It didn't take very long... the longest part was actually drawing her. I'd never drawn a My Little Pony - or even a hippogriff ! Maybe 3-4 hours of interrupted work (I was minding my friend's store for her). I'm not 100% on the Scythian symbol, but I did see where hippogriffs were included in mythology and both the Scythians and Greeks came up (of course, the two cultures met and influenced each other, as well). As for the symbol - I found it in an internet search and though I kind of feel it looks more Celtic, many of the motifs in both cultures' are really similar so I'm not sure.
Fantastic! That is such a great idea! And so brilliantly drawn I wish these had existed when i was little - i loved My Little Ponies
By the way, did you recieve the email i sent to the address you gave me with the picture you wanted?
You are very welcome, I tend to find something that confuses me about every picture. The marking just happened to be it in yours. Hope to see more soon! You are very talented.
